Candidate Eligibility & Professional Rewards

This page outlines eligibility and how to apply so you can decide if the Miss Boone County Fair Queen Program is a good fit for you.

To be eligible to compete in the Miss Boone County Fair Queen Program, each contestant must meet all of the following:

Age

Contestant must be 18 on or before June 1, 2027, and not have reached their 22nd birthday on or before June 1, 2027.

4-H Membership

Contestant must be either an active or former member of Boone County 4-H.

Community Involvement

Contestant must be actively involved as a volunteer in a community or non-profit organization, because we value leaders who give back!

4-H Project Completion

Contestant must have successfully completed a minimum of four 4-H projects. The projects may be:

  • Four years of the same project,

  • One year each of four different projects, or

  • Any combination that totals four completed projects.

Judging Criteria

Contestants are evaluated across four areas that reflect communication skills, confidence, preparation, and leadership presence.. These categories are designed to help participants practice real-world skills used in interviews, presentations, and professional settings.

Judges are focused on how contestants communicate and carry themselves, not physical appearance.

1. Interview (45%)

The interview allows contetants to demonstrate communication skills, critical thinking, and authenticity.

  • Ability to Converse – Clarity, ease, and understanding in conversation; maintains eye contact, posture, and composure.

  • Confidence & Poise – Communicates with self-assurance and professionalism.

  • Authenticity & Personality – Displays genuine character, individuality, and thoughtfulness.

2. Prepared Speech (15%)

The prepared speech provides an opportunity to practice public speaking and message delivery.

  • Content of Speech – Meaningful, organized, and relevant.

  • Delivery – Clear voice projection, proper pacing, good eye contact, and confident engagement.

  • Adherence to Time Limit – Stays within the allotted time.

3. Professional Wear (20%)

This portion evaluates how contestants present themselves i a professional or leadership setting. Judging focuses on confidence, posture, and appropriateness for a professional environment - not fashion trends or body type.

  • Poise & Confidence – Walks and presents with control and assurance.

  • Posture & Walk – Upright posture with purposeful walk.

  • Suitability of Outfit – Outfit is flattering, professional, and appropriate.

4. Evening Gown (20%)

This segment allows contestants to demonstrate composure and confidence in a formal presentation setting. Judging focuses on presence, grace, and overall professionalism — not physical attributes.

  • Stage Presence & Confidence – Graceful walk, audience engagement, and self-assurance.

  • Overall Impression – Complete, elegant look from head-to-toe, including fit, style, and elegance.

Coaching and guidance are provided throughout the program to help contestants feel prepared and confident.

The Miss Boone County Fair Queen Program is the perfect chance for young women that have participated in Boone County 4-H to shine! This isn’t a pageant but instead a life-changing experience where you’ll hone your interview skills, conquer public speaking, and boost your confidence – all while making lifelong friends.
